One day, a man walked into a pet shop and asked the owner, "Do you have a parrot that can speak?"

The shopkeeper nodded and said, "Yes, we do! Here's one for you." He handed the man a small bird.

"Can it really talk?" the man wondered.

"Oh yes," replied the shopkeeper with confidence. "Just teach it something simple, like 'Hello' or 'Goodbye.'"

Excited, the man took the parrot home and tried to teach it. But no matter what he did, the parrot wouldn’t say a word. Frustrated, he returned to the shop the next day.

"I’m sorry," he told the shopkeeper. "Your parrot doesn’t seem to be talking at all."

The shopkeeper looked surprised. "Let me try," he said. Approaching the parrot, he whispered softly, "Psst! Hey, buddy!"

To everyone’s amazement, the parrot immediately responded, "Hey, buddy! How about some crackers?"

The man was stunned. "Why didn’t it talk when I spoke to it?!"

The shopkeeper smiled and said, "Because it only speaks to people it likes."
